Its Navratri time, the time for celebrating and worshiping the Devi. It is a 9 day long journey, throughout which the 9 different forms of Devi are worshiped. The celebration has an interesting story behind it. Goddess Durga killed a demon after a battle that lasted 9 days. The festival of Navratri celebrates the victory of good over evil and it also symbolizes energy in the form of universal mother. ‘Shakti’ is another name of Goddess Durga which means power and the Divinity herself is seen as a remover of miseries. It is believed that fasting for these 9 days and bowing your head down in front of the Goddess will keep sufferings at bay. The religious Indians dutifully take part in the festival every year but remain confused about what should be eaten during these days since a lot of food items are not allowed. We have brought to you some food items that you can include in your diet plan for Navratri fast, without adding much calories! Kuttu Ka Dosa Dosa, a mouth watering delicacy from South India is made of rice, which is not eaten during the fast. But the dosa can still be included in your fast diet, we have a trick for that! Milk Shake Since the staples, rice and wheat flour are not allowed during the fast people look for other foods to fill their stomach. These other options are often fried and add a lot of calories to your diet. Milk is a great way to fill your belly but you can make more nutritious by adding almonds to it or even bananas! Fruit Salad You should try and divide your meals into small sections to avoid eating much fried. For a snack time you can simple fill a small bowl for yourself with fruits.
