Does sitting opposite a computer screen with a geeky frame of specks settled on your nose makes bulk of your day? You are one of the many people having a desk job, sitting all day, working long hours, involved with the shiny screen all day! The burden of your job responsibilities is forcing you to glue yourself to a chair leaving behind all health considerations. You know what that means? No you have no idea! It means 9 hours of wrong habits every single day. Or rather 45 hours per week, 198 hours a month and 2376 hours a year! Did you get a jolt reading this? So many hours of sickly behavior in the office can get you ill or rather very ill! We didn't mean to scare you out but yes a few habits have to be changed for a better, healthier life. We are here for that, check out the list, make changes and uplift your health! Messy Desk Since you spend majority of your day at your desk it is obvious that it will have an impact on your health. A messy, unclean desk is not only a burden to the eye but is also a party place for bacteria and fungi! You won’t want to imagine any of that, would you? Clean your desk at least once a week with wipes, put things in place and make it look organized. This little exercise will not only lower your stress but will also prevent infections. Double benefit! Poor Posture You sit at the desk for most part of the day and the posture you adopt there becomes a deciding factor in your health. Make sure you sit at a chair that is comfortable to you and allows a healthy posture. Adjust your chair height so that your eyes are at level with the top of your screen. Also a flat foot on ground, back straight arms at 90 degree angle posture is recommended! Excessive Sitting How do you deliver a message to your colleagues? Mail, phone calls might be your first choice. But that is just extending your sitting time and slowing down your brain functioning! You need to stretch and move about a bit every hour to improve blood circulation. Delivering message in person, standing while holding meetings, taking a small walk are very easy switches that can improve your health big time! Gossiping A favorite entertainment option in the office is gossiping, that might be fun and relaxing for a few but majorly is a root cause of unwanted stress. You might like to share embarrassing stories of co-workers but what if someone does the same to you? You will be stressed, right? So put your foot down and avoid being part of any office gossip sessions to maintain your sanity! Unhealthy Snacking It is obvious that after a quick breakfast in the morning you will be starving by the lunch time and you might over eat. A mid morning snack keeps this over eating at bay but if you just grab a pack of chips from the office canteen, its doing you no good! You are ingesting more calories at the end and that was definitely not the goal! Pack yourself some fruit for this snacking session or a handful of almonds might also do just good! Eating at the Desk A sudden post lunch meeting has come up and you need to prepare it through lunch hour. What to do? Let’s eat at the desk itself and save time for the presentation, practical but very unhealthy! It is this time that you can relax and refresh yourself for further tasks and skipping this means low energy post lunch. Moreover if you are pushing the cleaning session away, you have a germ party going on there already and sharing your lunch with them might not sound appetizing! Working Hours You already are working for a major part of your day and taking work home will kill your personal life totally. Resulting in a complete chaos, not so good for your emotional as well as physical health. Make sure you set boundaries for your working hours, no work calls after you leave office, no taking work home and no late nights working. Instead plan some fun into your evenings to freshen yourself up for the next day!
Your hours in the office are long and the habits you have there make a mark on your overall health. Make a few small changes in your office routine and see the magic it waves on your health!
